Long-term care insurance

Students must also make a financial contribution to long-term care insurance. The following principle applies: anyone who is insured in a statutory health insurance scheme automatically becomes a member of social long-term care insurance.

Contribution amount (October 2022): Anyone who is insured as a student in a statutory health insurance fund pays €24.77 per month or €27.61 (for childless students over the age of 23) in the statutory long-term care insurance fund.

Students with private health insurance are obliged to pay their contribution to the respective private long-term care insurance fund.

Important for BAföG recipients: If they are liable to pay contributions to the long-term care insurance fund, they will receive a monthly subsidy of €25 from the BAföG office towards the monthly long-term care insurance contribution.
