All Würzburg students are included!

All students at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, Hochschule für Musik Würzburg and Technische Hochschule, Abteilung Würzburg automatically receive a Würzburg semester ticket when they re-register or matriculate.

The ticket price can only be reduced to a bearable minimum for everyone if everyone shares in the financing. And this is also the fly in the ointment: the agreement is binding for all students. This includes those who do not want to or cannot use the semester ticket (e.g. due to a stay abroad or an internship outside of Würzburg).

Visiting students and severely disabled persons are exempt, provided they are entitled to free transportation.

The semester ticket is not a ticket that can be purchased, as it is always linked to enrollment at a Würzburg university (ticket = student ID, in the form of a chip card). All students in Würzburg have to pay the semester ticket fee, even if they do not want a semester ticket. On the other hand, it is unfortunately not possible to purchase the semester ticket voluntarily, even if you are studying at a neighboring/other university. Unfortunately, there are no exceptions to this rule.

The price is € 90.90 (as of winter semester 2024) per semester.

When enrolling or re-registering, each student pays a separate fee of €90.90 for the Würzburg semester ticket in addition to the semester fee. When enrolling or re-registering, the contribution for the semester ticket is therefore paid to the university and a semester ticket is automatically purchased.

Full 6 months.

The semester ticket is valid for one semester, even during the lecture-free period.

For University Würzburg: The winter semester regularly covers the period from October 1st to March 31st, the summer semester covers the period from April 1st to September 30th.

For THWS and HfM Würzburg: The winter semester regularly comprises the following periods: October 1 to March 14. The summer semester comprises: March 15 to September 30.

Your ticket is your validated student ID card.

The student ID card (= the personalized chip card with photo) serves as a tickets; the card must be validated accordingly. The travel authorization is not transferable.

The semester ticket is valid on all lines of the Mainfranken transport association in the city and district of Würzburg, in the district of Kitzingen and in the district of Main-Spessart. Here you will find an overview of the lines.

The semester ticket can be used on all bus and rail services in the city and district of Würzburg. Here you will find an overview.
Connecting journeys beyond the area of validity of the Würzburg semester ticket are regulated by the VVM.

Valid rail routes
Here you will find information from DB Regio Unterfranken on the valid rail routes within the scope of the semester ticket.

Please note: If you are making a connecting journey by train, the train must stop at the last station in the fare zone.
Students with a Würzburg semester ticket may make use of the so-called "broken check-in" on trains. This means that within the fare zone (i.e. in the city and district of Würzburg, in the district of Kitzingen and in the district of Main-Spessart), the semester ticket can be used as a ticket and, if necessary, a connecting ticket can be purchased for the rest of the journey to a neighboring district.

The »Bayerisches Ermäßigungsticket« for students is available!

Since the winter semester 2023/24, there has been a discounted Deutschlandticket for students in Bavaria. In Würzburg, the DTicket Studium can be booked as an upgrade to the semester ticket. This allows all students to travel throughout Germany on all buses, streetcars, S-Bahn/U-Bahn trains and 2nd class local trains. Würzburg students can offset the semester ticket price they have already paid (1/6 of the semester ticket solidarity contribution per month) against the price of the Bavarian discount ticket so that they do not have to pay twice. As the Würzburg semester ticket currently costs € 90.90, this means that € 15.15, which has already been paid as a monthly solidarity contribution through the semester ticket, is deducted from the € 29.00; Würzburg students therefore receive the discount ticket for just € 13.85 per month.
